Harvey Nichols unveils its Spring / Summer 2012 Ladies collection at Harvey Nichols stores. The collection is made up of eye catching outfits designed by world famous designers for the new season.

Harvey Nichols Spring / Summer 2012 Ladies collection features 11 distinctive themes including Flowers, Fish Style, Geometric Stripes and Blocks, Collage in Different Cultures, Linear, Photographic Type Prints, Retro American, Sporty Meshy, Sugar Candy, Tribal African and Underwater.

The Flowers theme mainly features labels like Erdem, Ashish, DVF, Giambattista Valli, Jill Stuart and Marni with floral patterned laces that seem to come right out of Van Gogh's fantasy world and floral photographic prints that merge with crispy patterns. Large, painting like prints and cut out fabrics come together to create voluminous forms to build a flower look.

The Fish Style theme is favored by Alexander Mc Queen, DVF, Emanuel Ungaro, Marchesa and Peter Pilotta who merged a mermaid look with textures. A new technique using crushed and compressed tin to create a fish skin illusion is widely used in the collections.

In Geometric Styles and Blocks, we see Alexander Wang, Jean paul Gaultier, Milly, Nicole Miller and Prabal Gurung moving away from marine theme and using stripes in a more geometrical manner. Bold colors and square patterns are eye catching.

Collage in Different Cultures theme shows an appreciation of cultural diversity in the collections of Erdem, Alice & Olivia, Balmain, Emilio Pucci, Markus Lupfer and Salvatore Ferragamo who interpret elements of Latino, Tropical, Japanese, Spanish Bull Fighting and even American Cowboy cultures in the forms, garments and accessories they use. Especially American cowboy shirts and collars are very popular and can be seen in almost every collection.

Linear theme features pure and plain architectural forms, stiff textures, sharp shoulder cuts and original cut out decolettes by Acne, Hakaan, Helmut Lang, Maison Martin Margiela, Nicole Fahri Linear and Sonie Rykiel. Masculine cuts and loose trousers are combined with masculine scarfs.

Original Photographic Prints replace traditional patterns in the collections of Balmain, D&G, Emilio Pucci, Matthew Williamson and Prabal Gurung. Sometimes, these photographs are brought together in ways to create kaleidoscopic patterns. Bohemian or Hippi looks are complimented with shawls and patterns with a Latino attitude.

In the Retro American theme we see labels like Alberta Feretti, Carolina Herrera, Milly and Roberto Cavalli come up with sophisticated designs that contrast a vivid saxe blue with calmer shades of grey, ecru, brown and black. The slightly transparent touch adds on to the femininity of the dresses, creating a sexier look for the new season.

Sport Meshy theme underlines a softer, more feminine look as opposed to last season's masculine, geometric cuts. Labels like Acne, Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang, Peter Pilotto and Rag&Bone go for a lot of lace and Peter Pan collars to create a girlish look which is almost eerie when combined with pastel and marshmallow shades, ruffles and cotton candy makeup.

In Sugar Candy, Alexander Mc Queen, Alice&Olivia, Betsey Johnson, Colette Dinnigan and Victor&Rolf combine various shades of pink and grey with colors of the rainbow. Floral prints and stripes on tulle and taffeta make the hit pieces of the season.

Tribal African theme comes with animal and mostly zebra prints, colorful raffias and strip garments in the collections of Donna Karan, Gambattista Valli, Helmut Lang, Michael Kors and Roberto Cavalli. Graphic tribal patterns are combined with elements of different cultures and create the liveliest pieces of the season. Serpent (snake) skin stands out as an important material in
almost all collections.

Aquatic colors and patterns of the Underwater theme are enhanced by plastic textures and sequins to create an underwater effect in the collections of Acne, Alexander Mc Queen, Peter Pilotto and Versace.
